Bishop Carroll Travels to Overland Park

Game 6: (5-1-0)
at Home, Saturday, 19 Septemeber vs. Bishop Carroll (3-0)

We bounced back fairly well against a good side from Wichita. We were back to "deadballs and defense" (a Coach Hammons book coming out soon) as we created all three goals off our set pieces. And defensively we did not allow much although Diggs had to come up big for us to be up 1-0 at the half. And Nick Garcia finished his opportunity to get us that one. And I thought they created another very good chance towards the end of the match. 


Drew gave us a more defensive center midfielder today with lots of quick releases throughout the match—that made a pretty big difference. Honestly, our only real weakness was finishing, but that's tough to do anyway in soccer.

We really want to thank Bishop Carroll for traveling up from Wichita amongst all of the pandemic restrictions to make this match happen.

We also what to thank Firehouse Subs of Blue Springs for helping us feed the crew from Carroll. 

We did get a taste of DJ up top second half; we have not seen much of that this year, and we did surprise a guy at halftime who is living in the woods, and we had not seen that before either. So.

We now hit the road for two weeks—so we will need to prove we can win away from the friendly confines of Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Game .5 26 August 2020 vs. Saints Junior Varsity  All right—we got to don our actual uniforms, welcome a great set of high school refs (one alum), and, we thought, see this year's team altogether on the field. Well, Eames is still not cleared to play, and Konnesky ended up in quarantine—and then 3 starters were late.  So, not quite what we were hoping. And first half, although we controlled possession, we were a little out of sync.  We lead 1-0 at the half. We showed nice improvement in the second half, scoring 5 more, and when the lights went out with a couple of minutes left in the match, the game had to end. But oh my what a shot from Pope did it end on. It was a drop-the-mike shot to make the final score, 6-0. The coaches named Ryan Pope Man of the Match. He got a nice assist off his perfect corner kick before finishing the shot of the match as it ended. Defense Downs Offense

Game 0 22 August 2020 in a Blue vs. White pre-Blue-Gold Match (0-2) Honestly, this team has been one of the more active during this pandemic. We won the Great Plains 6 v 6 league, playing throughout July, captured a first and a third in two Brian White Classics, losing only one match on a shootout. And we have done most all of this wearing our masks, bringing our own water bottles and balls, social distancing--just trying to do everything we possibly can to get to play some real high school matches this season. So, we have shown we were excited to get things started this week.  So, we finished off tryout week (Congratulations to Liam Ryan, Barrett Kitts, Jacob Muckerman and Zayveon Russell for being named Josh Lents Tryout Award Winners for their grade) Saturday with a shortened scrimmage featuring our varsity and extended varsity in a scrimmage which really pitted the defense against the offense. Saints Take on Defending State Champs

Game 9: (7-2) 29 September at BV Southwest (0-1) We knew how important this match was going to be for postseason seeding, and we did not get it done, falling 1-0. We gave up a goal in the first five minutes of the match, as the Timberwolves broke us down on our right side and finished a nice ball.  I don't think they had a legitimate chance to score after that, but without our corners and throw-ins, we did not create much either. Their keeper was excellent at challenging every ball we put into the box. His punches started counter-attacks some of the time. Also Southwest plays hard; they go hard to the ball, and they shut down space as well as any other team we have played against this year.  Most of the Southwest attack was broken up by that triangle of Farrar, Muckerman, and Nick Garcia.
