Late Afternoon, SwiDAC

Game 5 (4-1)
17 September at SwiDAC vs. BV Northwest (1-3)

It was fun to see the energy that the Huskies had today. They have been held out of play for so long, and now they get to play soccer. They showed it Tuesday in their loss to Rockhurst, and they had and showed even more energy tonight. Granted, that energy builds as you take the lead, and then add to it.

We were humbled honestly; we lost 3-1; we had not given up a goal all year, and we gave up 3 tonight; I am not sure if any of them were good goals; they came from our own mistakes. But they were nice finishes by the Huskies. And, honestly it could have been more. One goal was called off because the sprinkler system went off during the run of play in the second half, and another almost-goal slid in just after the final horn went off—almost 5-1.

Their best opportunity of the entire night came when they earned a PK. Carter Diggs just laid out to make an incredible save, a save that you would have thought would turn the momentum all our way. His save kept the match at 1-1 mid-second half, but they scored less than 30 seconds after he makes that save. (And he saved the first shot of that goal!) I know Carter gave up 3 goals tonight, and the first of the year, but he made a tremendous save early, and he saved the PK that should have launched us into action. He is the Man of the Match.

Mitchell had a nice match also, and he found a way to find the ball off the Kitts corner to gets us tied before the half. That was a momentum-huge play.

But we just could not ever really match their energy today.  We still had a few spurts where we looked particularly dangerous, but they were few and far between.

So, hopefully, this match is a slap in the face that wakes us from our little nap. We need to find that work rate we had earlier; and we need to find our 10 and our 9's feet, get it wide, and attack the baseline. We did generate 7 corners in the first half, and we scored on one of them. Pretty good. But in the second half, we only generated one corner all half.

We have a quick practice tomorrow before we entertain Bishop Carroll at home on Saturday. Sometimes a loss is just what a team needs—hopefully, our team is one of those teams.
