Senior Night at Mill Valley

10 September at Mill Valley, with brand-spanking new turf, on Senior Night (2-0)

Here's what a game looks like without cashing deadballs—a pretty normal looking solid result of 2-0. It was 0-0 at the half, but we had several opportunities to score.


 Mill Valley entered the match 2-0, and they had a solid performance. They did not have much of an opportunity to score, but they limited our chances pretty well. We were playing back-to-back yet again but this result seemed more about focus than fatigue. I will say we did come out focused and strong for the second half. DJ was part of both of those second-half goals; on the first, he flicked it on from mid-post for the assist; and then he scored the second goal as Barrett found him on the backside. He had time to measure the shot up after a nice feint, before placing it back post upper-90.

And we have to give that defense a shoutout as they just racked up a fourth shutout in four games. Max Bryson (his solid "d" and his offensive attacks made him one of the Men of the Match, tonight)  mans left-back, Mitchell Farrar, Jacob Muckerman with a whole lot of Nick Garcia hold down centerback, with Zayveon Russell holding right back. And you will see a slug of Gabe Garcia and Mark Mason back there as well.

Drew Welch, the other Man of the Match, helps the defense quite a bit with his play at the "6." He wins a lot of balls in the air and he dispossesses so many of those guys coming through the middle.

We will work on getting our legs back for next Thursday when we head to SwiDAC to play BV Northwest, our second EKL match.

Saints Travel to Topeka

Game 10 (7-2-1) 1 October at Washburn Rural (1-1 2 OT’s) We had a tall task tonight traveling to a very good Rural team with 4 key players (Farrar, Konnesky, Young, and Morrisette) in the infirmary.  And we came out a little tentatively, giving up a goal again in the opening minutes. But something special happened tonight as we responded with a vengeance. We were a different team for the next 90 minutes. I could not be prouder of the boys.  And we still had to defend a ton of long throws and way more corners than we like. But we attacked like crazy people creating many good scoring opportunities. Rural’s keeper made 3 saves on the goal line. We banged a couple of posts as well.  I think we could have named umpteen Men of the Match, but 3 guys do deserve special mention. Defense Downs Offense

Game 0 22 August 2020 in a Blue vs. White pre-Blue-Gold Match (0-2) Honestly, this team has been one of the more active during this pandemic. We won the Great Plains 6 v 6 league, playing throughout July, captured a first and a third in two Brian White Classics, losing only one match on a shootout. And we have done most all of this wearing our masks, bringing our own water bottles and balls, social distancing--just trying to do everything we possibly can to get to play some real high school matches this season. So, we have shown we were excited to get things started this week.  So, we finished off tryout week (Congratulations to Liam Ryan, Barrett Kitts, Jacob Muckerman and Zayveon Russell for being named Josh Lents Tryout Award Winners for their grade) Saturday with a shortened scrimmage featuring our varsity and extended varsity in a scrimmage which really pitted the defense against the offense.
